Fairytale Puppetry – Exploring Languages

Engage with language and culture through a range of nine classic fairytales and stories told through exquisitely crafted traditional European hand puppets. The performances feature audience participation and are available in French and Mandarin. This program can be tailored to suit different ages or language levels. The Jungle Book: – 45 minutes – Pre-Primary and Primary – French, Mandarin The performance and language content (LOTE) is adapted accordingly. The level of vocabulary is easy. The children will be asked to sing and repeat easy words in the language they are learning. Ideal show for beginners. Puss in Boots: – 50 minutes – Years 5-8 – French, Mandarin The performance and language content (LOTE) is adapted accordingly. The level of vocabulary is for students who have a reasonable understanding of the language. The puppets will interact with the students, in the language they are learning. Ideal show for students who have done a minimum of 1 to 2 years of LOTE.

Yoga and Mindfulness

Yoga and Bollywood dance teacher Valli will introduce students to the symbolism and cultural history of yoga. She uses flowing yoga postures and classical hand gestures with meditation and breath techniques that are suitable to the age and ability of students. This program energises and engages students in this ancient practice. Valli also offers a Yoga Infusion Program comprising a course of four sessions.

Spirit of Indonesia With Sisca

Acting as an introduction to Indonesian culture, this program explores the customs, language, dance styles and traditional dress of the island nations. Drawing on historic events and tying into the current day, Sisca takes students on an exploration of the islands of Bali and Java. This program is also available as an all-day program for a more in depth experience.

Japanese Infusion

Aiko brings to life Japanese culture with this beautifully crafted program. She teaches children about Japanese culture, traditions, seasons and celebrations through the use of puppets, songs, games and storytelling. This is an active and engaging program that will have students learning words and numbers in Japanese and, most importantly, having lots of fun.

Let’s Kung Fu with Panda

This workshop is perfect for younger students. Highly interactive, the program includes a traditional Kung Fu demonstration, Tai-chi, fan dance and the ancient sword dance! Students will then meet Panda who will do a fun Kung Fu workshop with them.

Bukhu, Mongolian Throat Singer

Derived from Mongolian folk religion and the legend of the Shaman, Bukhu presents traditional throat singing from his homeland. Alongside the Mongolian horse head fiddle, the singing is skillfully crafted into an exciting and engaging performance using contemporary loop pedals and modern beats!

Assyrian-Iraqi Band Azadoota

Azadoota’s front man Robin Zirwanda comes from Iraq, where the Assyrians trace their ancestors back 7000 years. Recognised throughout the diaspora as a goodwill ambassador for his little-known nation, Robin sings catchy originals in his native Assyrian Aramaic language. Azadoota’s goal is to break down stereotypes and promote tolerance and harmony. Azadoota means “Freedom”.

Rhythm Empire

Rhythm Empire is a theatrical multicultural music and dance extravaganza featuring rhythms, dances, instruments, language and costumes from across the ancient world. The colourful history and cultures of the Silk Road come to life when audiences join the performance, to barter, trade, and perform in a rollicking world music jam!

Jungle Shimmy

Hailed by parents and teachers as a one-woman-multicultural-rock-concert-for-kids, Jungle Shimmy is a dynamic music and dance adventure across the world! With colourful props and fun, easy-to-follow dances including Belly Dance, Bollywood, Bhangra, Turkish, Egyptian, Gulf and Lebanese folk styles, everybody is up on their feet dancing. The shrill cry of a zaghareet, exotic instruments, rhythms like Khaleegi, Maqsoum and Beledi, and a unique hand made puppet theatre draws audiences of all ages into a captivating world of culture and creative self-expression.
