Join Sifu Gawain Siu as he presents the cultural significance and history of Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Chinese Lion Dance. Becoming a Kung Fu instructor at just 14 years old, Sifu now has more than 50 years of experience in Martial Arts and will deliver an active workshop promoting respect and harmony. This program is also available to be delivered virtually.
This program incorporates two rotating sessions into one all day program celebrating diversity in Chinese culture. May Wang and her team can tailor a program to include Chinese Lion Dance, Martial Arts, a drumming workshop, folk dancing, calligraphy or lantern making.
Capoeira is a unique African-Brazilian cultural practice that fuses acrobatics, body expression, tradition, music playing and song singing. Capoeira is an exciting high-energy martial arts disguised as dance that was originally developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil. It was granted status as “intangible cultural heritage” by UNESCO and today is practiced in hundreds of countries around the world. Masters and teachers of this art are important pillars in their communities passing on knowledge, values and wisdom to their students. Students will be introduced to the instruments and songs of Capoeira, see an athletic display and try some moves themselves.
This workshop is perfect for younger students. Highly interactive, the program includes a traditional Kung Fu demonstration, Tai-chi, fan dance and the ancient sword dance! Students will then meet Panda who will do a fun Kung Fu workshop with them.
This program incorporates both dynamic displays of Taekwondo and active participation by students. Students will learn empowering values and fostering of qualities such as confidence, positive outlook, safety and cultural awareness in an engaging, fun and safe environment. Students will get to learn the meanings of basic Korean words and engage in Korean etiquette such as bowing and greeting each other.
The Mulan Fan Dance blends a graceful folk dance with strong Kung Fu moves, which students will learn in this interactive program. Sindy Mu explains the true story of the legendary female warrior Mulan (as depicted in the Disney film) and why this ancient story is still so significant in Chinese culture.
Students will learn about the history and symbolism of the Lion Dance, an art form that dates back to the 12th century. It is believed to bring good fortune, prosperity and longevity. As well as gaining an insight into ancient Chinese culture, students will love seeing the lion close up to see how it is operated.
A high energy workshop where presenters will discuss the history and philosophy of martial arts in China and demonstrate different styles of Kung-Fu and Tai-Chi. This workshop can be adapted to different ages and physical abilities. For larger groups or demonstrations our presenters can organise a live Chinese drumming accompaniment
