The Race of the 12 Zodiacs & The Lion Dance Story is both an important part of the Chinese Celebration of the Lunar New Year. This workshop introduces the concept of courage to kids. Narrating a young girls journey to explore the origins of Chinese New Year. We provide help kids identify their zodiac animal, allowing them to identify with the strengths of the animal to empower them to face fears. We introduce Lion Dancing props, instruments and costumes to the kids. So they can have an upfront experience with the costumes.
Formed with the aim of promoting and preserving Chinese culture, the Chung Wah Association’s dance troupe are enthusiastic about sharing their heritage with students. Their program includes a performance of classical and contemporary Chinese dances using fans, umbrellas and handkerchiefs. Students participate by learning Chinese dance techniques and routines.
Join Sifu Gawain Siu as he presents the cultural significance and history of Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Chinese Lion Dance. Becoming a Kung Fu instructor at just 14 years old, Sifu now has more than 50 years of experience in Martial Arts and will deliver an active workshop promoting respect and harmony. This program is also available to be delivered virtually.
Did you know that kites were invented in China? Tom Lo and his team present this hands on program where students will make their own colourful paper kite. Students will learn about the symbolism of different shapes and animals used in this ancient craft as well as practice Chinese calligraphy to decorate their kites.
Zhao Liang is a Chinese Harpist from The School of Chinese Music and Arts, established in 2005 to teach the Guzheng or Chinese Harp. This workshop presents the origins of the harp and introduces traditional Chinese music. This is followed by a beautiful performance and an interactive workshop where students learn a traditional song.
A colourful demonstration of the Chinese Fan Dance where after a beautiful demonstration from the presenter, students will each get their own fan to try the dance for themselves!
This program incorporates two rotating sessions into one all day program celebrating diversity in Chinese culture. May Wang and her team can tailor a program to include Chinese Lion Dance, Martial Arts, a drumming workshop, folk dancing, calligraphy or lantern making.
This program engages students with an incredible performance of folk dances from across China such as the Lantern Dance, Ribbon Dance or Fan Dance. Students will practise a short routine using some of the moves they’ve seen, performed to both traditional and contemporary Chinese music.
This workshop is perfect for younger students. Highly interactive, the program includes a traditional Kung Fu demonstration, Tai-chi, fan dance and the ancient sword dance! Students will then meet Panda who will do a fun Kung Fu workshop with them.
Ayako and Ayako present traditional and original Japanese music in this program combining an amazing performance and interactive workshop. Students are introduced to an array of Japanese instruments before the room shakes with the sound of the Taiko drums!
