Community Programs

We work with communities on issues specific to their community. Examples of such projects include working with communities to design youth engagement strategies to link local government and services to disengaged young people.

Cultural Awareness and Development

Cultural Awareness Training

Cultural Infusion can facilitate Cultural Awareness Training for communities and organisations to teach participants to communicate with and understand people from diverse backgrounds. Cultural awareness is an important skill in both our diverse society and as global citizens.

Community Cultural Development

Cultural Infusion works with communities on social concerns so that communities can become active in changing how their communities operate. Cultural Infusion can work with communities to devise community cultural development plans and projects.

Youth Programs

FreeZa

Cultural Infusion is the FreeZa provider for the City of Yarra and offers young people the opportunity to organise their own events. The committee is a group of diverse young people who are interested in different aspects of Hiphop culture.

The committee organises regular youth events and contributes to Cultural Infusion’s annual National Freestyle Masters of Hiphop event. This FreeZa committee has been active for three years.

Reprezent

In partnership with schools across Melbourne, Hip Hop artists mentor a group of students to develop their own performance around the theme ‘Where you’re from and where you’re at.’ The performance outcome involves a tour whereby students perform at each partner school.

ReprezentThrough this program young people have the opportunity to develop original performance outcomes utilising the various Hip Hop art forms including: Dance, Music, DJing, Street Art, and Rapping.

This program engages young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to enhance their connection with their community and encourage positive self-development. ‘Reprezent’ has been supported by Arts Victoria, The Besen Family Foundation, School Focussed Youth Services, Moonee Valley City Council and Maribyrnong City Council.

Sonic Elevation – “Helping Young People Take Flight”

Sonic Elevation is an exchange program during schools holidays for Indigenous young people from regional and remote communities to participate in music and dance workshops in major urban centres.

Sonic Elevation will contend with extreme geographic isolation by providing young people with travel experience, skill development, education and entertainment. Combining acrobatics, hip hop dance and traditional dance, the program will build towards a final public performance after each holiday program, showcasing skills learned.
