Bali in Motion - Indonesian and Balineses Dance & Song

Masked dances have been a feature of Balinese culture since at least the ninth century. Topeng in Bali and Indonesian language usually refers specifically to the dance-drama genre which presents stories based on the Babad, chronicles of Balinese history and legend.

Via movement and drama, students will be able to appreciate the significance of and obtain a better understanding of Indonesian culture, its purpose and techniques. Students will be instructed how to move their bodies, and taught the movements.

The workshop provides students the opportunity to act out each character and learn dance movements and gestures of each character. The audience can learn and appreciate the challenges facing each character and how they best adapt to the environment surrounding there circumstances.
