Professional artists/performers from diverse cultural backgrounds, deliver live, interactive incursions to encourage intercultural dialogue in a fun, flexible way. Our incursions are suitable for Drama, Theatre, Music, English, LOTE, SOSE, Human Movement, Cultural Studies and many more!

Cultural Infusion's Incursion Program is designed to encourage harmony, diversity and inclusiveness by helping students understand other cultures and appreciate other people's belief and lifestyles through lively interaction. This incursion showcases the unique beauty and power of traditional Asian performing arts through a mix of famous dances and arts from countries such as Vietnam, China, Japan, Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia, from the Japanese Samurai to Chinese martial arts and colourful traditional dances.

Asia Minor - Stephanos Eleftheriadis

Pontus, the name given to the region of today’s northern Turkey coastline, has a mixed population of Turkish, Greek, Laz and Armenian people, a unique dialect and a love for music and dance. Stephanos Eleftheriadis, an active member of the Melbourne Pontian Community since aged 5 demonstrates Omalia, Trigona, Patoula, Pitsiak (knife) and Serra (war) Dances and plays the Kemence, Touloumi (bagpipe), Daouly (drum) and Gaval.

Commedia dell'Arte

Split your sides as our Commedia dell ’Arte duo, take you on a journey of improvisation based on 15th Century Italian classical theatre. It’s loud, dramatic and clever comedy. France - French Connection

“The French Connection” brings France alive in your classroom! This 50 minute interactive presentation starts with a tour of the French exploration of Tasmania in the 1700’s. Students will then be transported to modern day France with an introduction to the French cuisine, music, culture and arts.

Germany - Schuhplaitler Volkstanz

Schuhplatteln, means ‘slapping the shoe soles’ but also includes thigh-slapping, hand-clapping, twirling and waltzing. This high energy intricate and athletic country dancing includes traditional polkas and waltzes ranging from Northern Germany to Southern Austria. Each demonstration is accompanied by explanations of the context and the stories associated with each. Students are inspired to get on the dance floor to learn the steps.

The word "tal" means "clap" or rhythmic cycle, and hand-clapping may be the oldest form of rhythmic accompaniment. The Indian system for maintaining a time cycle and showing stressed and unstressed beats is exciting and fun. Dheeraj is one of the finest young exponents of tabla, and an accomplished soloist and versatile accompanist.
