Pontus, the name given to the region of today’s northern Turkey coastline, has a mixed population of Turkish, Greek, Laz and Armenian people, a unique dialect and a love for music and dance. Stephanos Eleftheriadis, an active member of the Melbourne Pontian Community since aged 5 demonstrates Omalia, Trigona, Patoula, Pitsiak (knife) and Serra (war) Dances and plays the Kemence, Touloumi (bagpipe), Daouly (drum) and Gaval.

“The French Connection” brings France alive in your classroom! This 50 minute interactive presentation starts with a tour of the French exploration of Tasmania in the 1700’s. Students will then be transported to modern day France with an introduction to the French cuisine, music, culture and arts.

Schuhplatteln, means ‘slapping the shoe soles’ but also includes thigh-slapping, hand-clapping, twirling and waltzing. This high energy intricate and athletic country dancing includes traditional polkas and waltzes ranging from Northern Germany to Southern Austria.
