Wylie J Miller
Motivational speaker... comedian... muso... singer... songwriter... producer... visionary
Any and all of the above words describe Wylie J to a T. From singing in a renowned Jazz band, The Grand Wazoo, to changing the lives of teens in trouble. From outrageous comedy to his enlightening poetry, Wylie is a one man show.
As one of Australia’s respected Indigenous singer/songwriters, Kutcha’s music and community work has made him a legend in the Indigenous community and beyond. What Kutcha shares through his songs and stories and with his people is a connection, a belonging. It is his hope (as well as his gift) that in his own journey of healing he is able to help heal others.
A sprightly 8 piece funk band, this collective of MCs, vocalists, beat boxers and musicians have forged a close knit group. Everyone’s got their own gift to bring to the table and throughout their set they casually drop into riffs, rolls and vocal raps, rhymes and interludes that get stretched, etched, drained or dropped depending on how things fold out.
Lady Lash
There are MC’s, there are singers and then there is Lady Lash… Lady Lash performs music that could be compared to Gangsta Rap; dark lyrics over melodic and haunting beats, which are mostly produced by Skitzo. DJ MzRizk complements this style by finding samples that reflect the songs themes. 2009 will definitely be the year of Lady Lash & DJ Mz Rizk!
The Buskerz
Voices like Alan Harris’ don’t come along all that often. It is truly of amazing charm and precision. Along with his son, Tristan, the duo creates beautiful, intertwining harmonies to produce wonderfully melodious remakes of some all time country classics. They have also been National Busker champions.
Sheekha brings the essence of a temple dancer to this event. Alluring and sensual she will be performing a classical Odissi dance piece from East India called Batu consisting of delicate mudras( hand gestures) , footwork and torso movement. Odissi is a traditional dance which is viewed as an offering to the deities and the audience. In the olden days, Maharis (temple dancers) would use this dance as an act of worship and offering.
King Marong
A much honoured and respected Gambian musician King has been performing since the age of 12. A master of djembe and sbar ensembles he plays with extraordinary power and ability and has taught percussion around the world for many years. King has also played with many top Gambian groups before Presidents and other VIPs with the Gambian National Ballet.
Elf Tranzporter
Elf Tranzporter, an original member of one of Australia's early legendary underground hip hop acts, MetaBass'n'Breath, brings 'heart-core' lyricism and cypher-honed beatbox percussion to the stage and audiences all over Australia, as well as abroad. Rapping over drums created by some of Melbourne's finest producers or over beatbox rhythm beds, Elf burns the divide between music created for rocking the dance floor and sonics aimed toward consciousness raising and spiritual empowerment.
Hugo 1 is a freestyle/pre-written MC from the UK dedicated to coalescing the greatest level of skill available to his 4dimensional being. He has just returned to the great city of Melbourne to hang in the hip hop melting pot of Collingwood and continue his studies of the 4million+ elements of hip hop, and the oneness of the universe.
Lamaroc has been active in the Bboy scene for 10 years. As a member of the “Fresh Sox” crew (4 times OZBBOY Champions), Lamaroc has traveled to the United States, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore and throughout Australia competing and performing. He is one of the most active dancers in Australia under the realm of funkstyles (popping & locking) having performed and toured with the “Cat Empire” in 2003/2004 and also with DJ Dexta and the “Daily Shook Crew”. He will be suitably joined by a crew of experienced break dance colleague.
A cool, classy and totally charming circus girl with a thing for hoops. Sammy can entrance a crowd with just one hoop, wow them with up to 20 at once, or totally blow the roof off with her unique 'Razor Blade Hoola Hoop' act. Combining hooping with clowning and comedy, you will laugh, you will wonder and you will cheer for more as this sassy hooper takes you on a spinning, swirling exciting ride through circus mayhem.
